     Vincentian Series

The Springfield District Council of the Society of St. Vincent de Paul would like to announce their 7 week Vincentian Series and invite the community to attend.  All sessions will be held in the St. Joe’s Parish Center located at 819 Kenton St. in Springfield.

Wednesday, April 19    Spiritual Growth of its members is the No. 1 goal of the Society of St Vincent de Paul. To facilitate this growth the National Office of our Society has made available several tools to assist us on our journey. We will describe and discuss these tools and how they can enrich your prayer life and help bring you closer to God.  7:00 p.m. – 8:00p.m.

Wednesday, April 26   Film night: ‘Monsieur Vincent’ (1947 French film) highlighting the works of our patron, St. Vincent de Paul and his struggles to help the poor as a seventeenth century priest and charity worker.  7:00 p.m. – 8:50 p.m.

Wednesday, May 3   Systemic Change; find out what St. Vincent de Paul is doing to address the root causes of poverty.  We will be talking about our local Getting Ahead program and hear from facilitators, mentors and past participant of this program. 7:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m.

Wednesday, May 10   The Voice of the Poor:  This is the advocacy arm of St. Vincent de Paul.  We identify those issues that are critical to those living in poverty and need, and help bring attention to them so communities and our elected representatives can help develop strategies and tactics that will provide the most effective and efficient means to reduce or eliminate poverty.  7:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m.

Wednesday, May 17   Springfield District Council and Springfield Conferences of St. Vincent de Paul will share what they are doing right here in the community to help those in need and give a financial accounting of our works.  7:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m.

Wednesday, May 24     Fr. John MacQuarrie will speak on the Ministry of Presence and other aspects of Home Visits.    7:00 p.m.-8:00 p.m.

Week 7:  We will present an in depth study regarding the Society known as Ozanam Orientation to those wanting to learn more.  This takes approximately seven hours which can be as a one day session or two evening sessions, depending on the wishes of the participants. TBA
